July 1, 2020 - August 25, 2020
Missing out on this year's Evening Prairie walks? Sign up to receive some information for self-led exploration!
A flyer of what's blooming in Story County prairies will be sent out every 2-3 weeks based on the amount of new blooms to be found. We'll also include the park or trail where the blooms were seen so you have a place to get started, but there are MANY prairie areas across the county where you might be able to find these plants!
July 20, 2020, 5:00 AM - August 10, 2020, 10:30 PM @ Multiple Parks!
Ahoy, Matey! Captain BushTale here, and I have a quest for you! Can you find my hiding crew? They are hiding at two different parks:
McFarland Park (56461 180th Street, Ames)
Christiansen Forest Preserve (55973 310th Street, Huxley)
To find them you will need to download or print the maps I have made for you! I have left a trail of clues and riddles for you to find and follow to help lead you to my hiding crewmate. Can you guess what kind of animal they are before finding them?
Let us know you found the hiding crewmate by posing for a photo, then post on Instagram or Facebook. Use #CaptainBushtale, and be sure you tag Story County Conservation!
Long pants and closed-toed shoes are recommended to participate in this activity as some of my clues might be off trail. The quest begins July 20 and will stay out through the end of August.
August 3, 2020, 9:00 AM - August 6, 2020, 11:30 AM @ McFarland Park
CANCELED DUE TO COVID-19
Children explore what makes each animal special, whether they have fur, feathers, fliers, or fins. On the last day, we'll venture to the lake with nets, so be prepared to get wet and dirty! See related items below for further camp details.
This camp is only for children that will be starting kindergarten in the fall of 2020. Children must be 5 years of age by August 1, 2020 in order to attend. This camp runs Monday, August 3 - Thursday, August 6.
Camp will begin at 9:00 a.m. and end at 11:30 a.m. daily. Parents are not allowed to stay with children (we require background checks on each person that is around children). Children may only be registered for one Polliwogs camp.
Registration begins on Tuesday, May 26 at 6:00 p.m. Adding your child to the waiting list prior will not hold a place for them. You will be able to register online when registration opens.
August 6, 2020, 6:00 AM - August 12, 2020, 12:00 PM @ Campers will meet at McFarland Park
